Hostelling is green by design, because hostellers share accommodations, transportation, and meals. HIUSA operates a network of hostels that encourage and enable low impact travel, while preserving and protecting landmark buildings and communities where they reside. Our hostels are built on the concept of shared spaces to foster interaction between guests, which helps to reduce our carbon footprint.
Starting with the retrofitting of this historic building, HI Chicago operates in an environmentally responsible manner, measuring and communicating our impacts to the hostel community and the public. We know how much our guests care about the environment, too. This is why HI Chicago strives to create a green hostel environment, where all can participate and “reduce, reuse and recycle”.
