The Hostelling International Teach-In program began with the desire to share the experience of travel with area youth. Due to the success of the program in other U.S. locations HI-Chicago will expand its educational programs with the addition of the Teach-Ins. International travelers are invited to meet with students from local elementary and middle schools. In this informal gathering they will share information about their home and stories from their experience as a traveler. Designed as a classroom supplement to Geography, Social Studies, or Foreign Language instruction the program helps students to learn about the world and its people through exposure to international guests staying at the hostel. Through these connections students begin to understand how valuable learning about a particular culture is in the broader understanding of the world.

Sessions for 2002-03 school year are now available!

We are willing to assist group leaders or teachers in the planning of educational sessions that utilize Hostelling International – Chicago’s educational resources. For information on the Teach-Ins or any other youth education program contact the Programs and Education Director at [email protected].
